Milton Keynes design principles

Safety and surveillance

  • Appropriately designed street networks avoiding dark alleyways - There is a clear definition between public and privately accessible spaces.

  • Sense of ownership of public and private space - Clear definitions between these two spaces is created.

  • Priority for pedestrians - A central pedestrianised area and accesses for pedestrians throughout the site prioritises the pedestrian.

  • Eyes on the street through active ground floor uses - The cross section plan shows ground floor uses are either shops, restaurants, etc or housing with secondary uses such as offices above and housing above this.
